On a somber February evening, Code Red was declared in Google’s offices in lieu of Microsoft’s further 10 billion investment in OpenAI and their product, ChatGPT. With interest sparking from all over the globe, Google had to respond - and respond they did.

On the 6th of February, Google officially unveiled its own AI chatbot, Apprentice Bard. Operating on the same principles as ChatGPT, it primarily aims to integrate AI-related answers directly into Google search and beyond.

Key Takeaways:

  • Google has announced its own AI tool, Apprentice Bard, which aims to integrate AI-related answers directly into Google search.
  • The advent of AI-based content means that low-quality content will no longer rank in search engines.
  • SEO experts and bloggers should ensure that their content is unique, provides value-added content, and has a personal touch to retain its ranking.
  • The transition to AI-based content provides an opportunity for great content writers and SEO experts to excel.
  • To ensure that your content still holds value, focus on delivering content that is unique, user-friendly, and meets search intent.

Are SEO Blogs In Trouble?

A quick look at Bard’s response in Google Search reveals something interesting. Google’s AI, just like ChatGPT, does not produce content but instead collects and infers it. In essence, if you were to ask the AI about a topic it has no idea about, unlike human intelligence - the relative inference wouldn’t be very substantial.

Now, what does this mean for SEO? Simple, low-quality content will have no chance of ranking from now on. Since AI, ChatGPT, or Google’s own will quickly fill in the gaps in the search engine space, only content that provides its own unique stir will be recognized as worthy.

According to Sundar Pichai’s recent blog post, here’s what Bard aims to accomplish:

“Synthesizing insights for questions where there’s no one right answer. Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats.”

Should I Be Worried?

Yes, every SEO expert or blogger should be worried. If you haven’t run content audits already, now’s the best time. Ensure that each piece of content on your blog or website is unique, provides value-added content, and has a tinge of personality in them.

However, if you are positive that your content is unique and checks all SEO-friendly boxes, there’s absolutely no reason for you to be anxious about whether your content will retain its ranking or not.

In most cases, the transition to Ai-based content allows for great content writers and SEO experts to shine. So, we’d recommend focusing on your content and going through this checklist before publishing:

  • Value: Identify key points in your content that are unique and are not talked about by competitors. Try to highlight them as much as possible.
  • User-Friendliness: The content you publish should be easy to read and should be easily accessible. The more tables, images, and lists, the better.
  • Search Intent: The more direct, concise, and appropriate your content is, the better it’ll rank.

If you follow the three major points we’ve highlighted above, your content will still hold value in the sea of AI-written content. All in all, the advent of AI marks a paradigm shift in the SEO / blogging industry. And, if you focus on delivering engaging content, you’ll be able to ride the wave quite melodiously.

In essence, human-made content still remains king and the status quo will remain for the foreseeable future!
